Happy Friday! How are you holding up under quarantine? I know we are all searching for a new normal, a new rhythm, a new routine. The extra time at home is leading us to attack those projects on the list and maybe even add a few new ones. Taking it into the kitchen today and sharing a corner of my kitchen.
For years, I’ve pondered what to do for a kitchen backsplash. There are just too many pretty, sparkly things out there. I just haven’t fallen in love and committed to one. And now with everything going on, a new kitchen backsplash seems low on the list….at least for me it is. (Everyone’s situation is different.) And in total honesty, I really need to change the countertops as well. So what started as let’s change the backsplash turns into a kitchen renovation. The wheels started to turn and I was thinking of other options. And wow….when you start looking there are so many peel and stick wallpapers out there.
Another day, another decision to be made. I searched and search and went back and forth…
Do I go with a subway tile or a fun arabesque or do I go bold and fun and go with a fun wallpaper? While there were a ton of great choices out there, I ultimately decided on something that’s budget-friendly.
$14 for a roll of contact paper…I mean, why not? Hey, if I don’t like it then I didn’t make a major investment. This way I can easily change it down the road when I decide what I want long term.
But the thing is…I LOVE it! Here’s what I ordered. It looks like concrete and pairs beautifully with my dark blue cabinets. (I’ll share a picture of those soon.)
A Corner of My Kitchen…
- Wood tray – I’ve had this one forever. Picked it up at an antique store I’m sure. It’s been in the closet for the longest time…lonely and feeling unwanted, but today it got to come out and play in the kitchen. While I can’t share the whereabouts of this exact one, I can share a few trays that I think would be great in the kitchen. But there’s a good chance that I got this at Old World Antieks in La Grange, Tx.
- Pitchers – I’ve also had a thing for pitchers. I was drawn to this copper orange one at CB2 last year. It was just sitting all lonely in the kitchen cabinet not getting used but it’s found its home here with this glass carafe and books.
Orange // Copper // Blue // Cream w/design // Stoneware // Floral
Glass carafe: One // Two // Three
- Books – We all have those cookbooks lying around so why not put them to good use and lay them out on display.
Earth shattering…no, but does it put a smile on my face every time I look at this corner of my kitchen…yes. And let’s face it we all need those moments of smiles big and small. We need those every day but now more than ever. So peek around and see what you have and how you can rearrange a few things in your kitchen to create a fun little corner of goodies.
Here are a few other arrangements I’ve done in the past.
