As an interior designer the urge to redecorate and move things around never really goes away. Yes, sometimes I look around and I’m very happy with how everything looks around my house and don’t want to change a thing. But then other times I can’t help but want to change things up. I get the urge to move things around and maybe even run out and pick up a few new things. I think that as women we often feel that way. We may love our space but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see something new. I think cocktail table decor is one of the easiest ways to get a new look.
Maybe it’s because I spend most of my time in my living room that this was the first area that came to mind.
For today’s post, I wanted to show you how you can grab a few pieces from Target & a few other places to mix things up and change up your cocktail table decor look.
A Little More About Me…
I realize that I haven’t really talked very much about myself and what I do or what I did. I have been an interior designer in Austin for the past 15 years. For more than half of this time, I did model home merchandising. So rearranging and creating “vignettes”/groupings was something that I did on a regular basis.
Model Home Merchandising…
The company that I worked for focused on model home merchandising. So I had the privilege of putting together model home designs for builders throughout the state. I loved coming up with a vision for each model home project that I worked on. I had the privilege of working on the project from start to finish. First, I’d start with a vision of a color scheme and furniture style and grow from there. Next up, I’d select all the fabrics, the furniture, and accessories. The entire process was fun but I found putting the model together was the most rewarding. The feeling of walking into an empty house and spending a week there putting it together, but then I’d leave and it was finished. Picture perfect. Easier said than done, problems would definitely come up along the way and I’d have to put on my thinking cap but all-in-all it was a fun process.
I’m currently not doing home model merchandising anymore but spending more time pursuing my love of fashion so I think the urge to create was at an all-time high. I was ready to get back into being creative in this aspect and putting together some great accessory groupings.
Adventures at Target
There I was strolling down the aisle of Target the other day (shocker…at Target again) and all these ideas started running through my head. If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw my kitchen vignette. You can see it here by going to my Shop My Instagram page. I think part of me missed pushing a cart full of accessories through the aisles of Target, At Home or Homegoods. So I decided, it was time to not only give my cocktail table decor an update but also share it with you and give you some ideas and inspiration on how you can move things around and create different looks. And as I mentioned before, you don’t always have to buy new things. You can often find treasures hidden in your home.
My Cocktail Table Decor
The Supplies…
- Bookend from Target
- Books tied with jute. You can always find some great old books at antique stores but you don’t have to spend money on old books. In our models, we’d always rip off the covers of hardcover books and voila you have a ripped cover old looking book. You can wrap it in jute for added texture. I’ve also soaked some of my ripped books in tea to give it a more distressed/worn look. Note: If you don’t have any books you want to rip apart, you can get books from Goodwill or Half Price books. Set of a stack of books.
- Vases from Target: Tall light grey. Short grey. This 10″ one is another great vase. (There are 4 vases in this collection. The 4 of these would look great grouped together on a dresser with a piece of art leaning behind it. Maybe some of the vase sitting on some books and add a wood bead garland to finish off the look.)
- Greenery from Target: I’ve always felt that greenery adds life to a space. Go with greenery like this one or succulents.
- Horse: I found this horse awhile back at Homegoods, but any cool sculpture or animal will work.
- Wood bead garland. Wood bead garland with heart.
- Gold tray from Target. (sadly this one is no longer available but you can always find great trays at At Home or Homegoods. Can’t find a good tray? Use a mirror.)
- Glass box (I cut strips of paper from a book and curled them a little to fill this box. This bird’s nest is one that I’ve had forever — found at a cute shop in Georgetown, Tx. But here’s a similar one.)
- Candle from Target. P.S. This smells amazing!
- Clear glass with gold topper
- Gold knot. A few other great decorative objects: One // Two // Three // Four // Five
Where to Shop?

Wrapping Things Up…
I do miss parts of my last job but I am excited about this new journey that I’m on. Sharing my outfits and recipes with you is so much fun and I plan to share more on interior design so I can share all my passions with you.
Let me know if you are looking for anything particular or if you have any questions.
Do you like rearranging your cocktail table decor or do you spend your time in another area of your house?
Maybe you don’t have room on your cocktail table for a fun grouping like this. These groupings don’t have to be limited to your cocktail table. Accessorize your dresser, an end table, your nightstands, dining table, bookshelves…you name it. Need some quick inspiration…check out a few of my past projects here.
Thanks for stopping by. Let me know if you’d like to see more home decor posts.
