I still can’t believe that Christmas is less than a week away. The holiday season really snuck up on me this year. Thankfully the bulk of my Christmas shopping is done. I got lucky and was able to get my shopping done with two stops! This never happens for me.
If you are done with your Christmas shopping, then you can sit back and relax and enjoy the season with family and friends. Maybe you aren’t ready and are running around like a chicken with your head cut off.
Whether you are ready or not I’d say that you probably wouldn’t say no to a festive cocktail like a Cranberry Splash. With all the gatherings with friends and families, it’s fun to have a festive drink to reach for.
I’ve got you covered! For me, it’s fun to create new cocktails. I’m always so intrigued by cocktail menus at restaurants and bars. I love seeing what fun things mixologists put together to create drinks.
Now my drink isn’t crazy creative but while I love creative I also love easy.
Full disclosure, sugaring the cranberries takes a minute but that’s just a fun garnish. You don’t HAVE to do it, but it sure looks pretty if you decide to do it.
Cranberry Splash
- Deep Eddy Vodka – Orange or Lemon
- 1 bag of Fresh Cranberries
- 2 cups of sugar (divided)
- Ice
- Cranberry Sprite
- 1/2 cup of Orange Juice (Note: I didn’t have OJ so I used V8 Mango Peach Splash juice)
Note: I tried this with the Deep Eddy Vodka in orange, lemon, and grapefruit. All were good but orange and lemon were my favorite.
Directions for sugared cranberries:
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 orange juice in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in cranberries until well coated. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to wire rack; let dry for at least 1 hour.
- Working in batches, roll cranberries in remaining 1 1/2 cups sugar until well coated; let dry for at least 1 hour.
Recipe for sugared cranberries from here, but I altered the recipe a little.
Let’s Make the Drink…
- Add 4-5 sugared cranberries to an 8 oz glass. Muddle the cranberries.
- Add 1 oz of Deep Eddy Vodka to glass. Fill with ice. (you can add more alcohol if you’d like. I like my drinks to go do smooth.)
- Pour Cranberry Sprite to fill the glass. Mix it slightly.
- Add swizzle stick with sugared cranberries for your garnish.
- Enjoy! But please drink responsibly.
We always enjoy mimosas or bellini’s Christmas morning but as a non-wine drinker, I always like to come up with fun cocktails. Do you have any holiday cocktails that you like to make?
Happy Holidays, friends!
