Five Fab Finds: Home Decor Edition

Happy Friday! I thought it was time to share another home decor post. I hope to share more of these posts so stay tuned!

Today’s post is really just about 5 pieces that I have loved accessorizing a space with. And they are pieces that you can use in more than one way.

1. Layered Art

My Dresser Decor…

  • Books: As the daughter of a retired librarian, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I have books…all over the place. But even if my mom wasn’t a book lover I think I’d still have books. I love using books in home decor. I just feel like that add an extra layer & element to a grouping. I also love books on fashion & home decor and I’ve cultivated quite the collection over the years. Here’s what I have on my dresser: one two three four five
  • Knot: I’ve always felt like it’s easy to decorate with vases. You literally can find a vase just about anywhere, but before you know it you can be living, literally, in a sea of vases. So I’m always on the hunt for sculptural pieces or objects as I like to call them. I love vases don’t get me wrong, but I love adding something sculptural to my groupings. In this case, I decided to add a metal knot. (This knot is AMAZING!) But you could add a figurine or a succulent. one two three
  • Wood beads: This particular strand came from the Christmas sale at Kirkland’s but they are everywhere now. (I just found this beauty and the wheels are already turning as to where I can put this in my house.) Black beads with tassel. Wood bead garland.
  • Layered art: I talk about layered art here. I love the dimension that layered art adds to a space. And it’s something that you can easily change up without putting holes in your walls. There are no rules when it comes to layering art. Mix posters with framed non-art. Mix vintage posters with your kid’s homemade art. Have fun with it. I think it’s fun to just have a gathering of art that caught your eye and makes you smile. The one rule that you probably do need to follow is more about sizing. You want your framed pieces to be different sizes so that you get a great layered effect. Here I have a framed poster that I got from iamfy.co with 2 non-art (as I like to call them) pieces that I picked up from my local HomeGoods. Homegoods is one of my favorite places to pick up fun decorative items for the home. They have a little bit of everything & great prices! Here’s a shadow box of framed metal bugs similar to mine from Target. This is also a piece that I love to layer with (especially on nightstands). Here’s another piece that would be great to work with. I also like to add these to bookshelves with adjustable shelves…it just adds more dimension to your bookshelf and breaks up the books. You may be asking yourself…what is non-art…this is something I would consider non-art. Basically, anything that’s not a framed picture. (metal art, canvases, framed paper or objects are just a few non-art examples)

2. Vase & 3. Tray

Kitchen Grouping…

  • Tall Vase: Target – Threshold Vase – (this comes in several different styles). This piece would great pretty much anywhere and it’s so versatile. It’s cream with a khaki-ish dot to it but it some light it looks mustard. Basically, it’s a piece that would work in most color schemes. I love the simplicity of it.
  • Tray: Target – Tray (currently on sale!! This tray would work everywhere…use it in your kitchen, use it in your bathroom or on your bar cart). If you want to go super practical in the kitchen then have this tray next to your stove with a container full of your cooking utensils as well as a collection of your most-used spices and oils. Use something pretty to organize the practical. The same can be said for the bathroom…let this tray hold your perfumes or makeup or bath products. And of course, we know this would look great on a bar cart showcasing beautiful bottles of liquor and pretty drinking glasses. (Maybe even pick-up a gorgeous decanter.)
  • Cloche on gold base: Cloches… where do I begin? I love cloches. I have more than I’d like to admit in my house. I think they are great for showcasing your treasures. They come in all shapes and sizes but this is just a small one that you can tuck into any fun grouping. You can get some really unique ones at antique stores. That’s where I’ve found some of my best ones, but you can always find at Homegoods, At Home & Target. (While I’m using this one in the kitchen, you really can use this anywhere. Fill it with your trinkets & treasures.)
  • Pitcher: Target (sadly no longer available). But here’s a cute one.
  • Olive Oil Dispenser: CB2 – Silver oil cruet. This beauty is currently on major sale so run don’t walk to your nearest CB2 or go online. It’s not only gorgeous but also practical. I cook with a lot of olive oil so I like having it right next to my stove for easy access.
  • Serving utensils: Homegoods (old). This is something that you can always find at Homegoods & they always have different options, but the holiday season is a great time to find great ones. Here’s a mango wood & marble option. This is another pretty set. Pizzazz is the perfect way to describe this set. LOVE!

4. Cream Textured Vase

Family Room Console Collection…

  • Copper Vase: Target (old)
  • Cream Vase: Crate & Barrel – Taline Vase. This is one of my favorite vases from Crate & Barrel. I have used this vase in more client’s homes than I should admit to, but it’s such a versatile piece. I’ll show you in another post where I used this one and others in a huge collection on a dining room buffet.
  • Canvas Art: This was actually a burlap sack that I cut up and wrapped around a blank canvas and turned into art.
  • Shadow Box Art: Homegoods. Here’s a neat framed leaf. This set of 3 would add color and texture to your grouping.
  • Metal Knot: Homegoods
  • Wood bead garland: CB2 – This was actually part of their Christmas decor, but think it works great here. You would never know it was Christmas decor.

5. Vintage Bust

Sofa Table Decor…

  • Bust: Boutique shop find. (old. Santos bust) But here’s something similar. Another option. Like more of a modern style then check out this one and see how CB2 merchandises it. I love interesting pieces like this. You can pick up a pretty vase just about anywhere but it’s pieces like this that make the space more interesting and make it personal. This particular arrangement is in a client’s living room and her favorite color just happens to be mustard so this bust was the perfect addition to this great collection of vases. I love all the texture in this arrangement.
  • Vases: Short textured cream. Tall cream with tan rim.
  • Wire candle holder: This one comes in 4 sizes. Here’s another option that comes in 2 sizes.

Decorating golden rule “live with what you love.”

Unknown

I found this quote online and find it to be so true. It’s important that you love your space and that it’s a reflection of you. There’s no better feeling than when someone walks into your house and says, “this space just feels like you.” I get the same feeling when that is said about a client’s space. I love helping people create a space of their own. A space that reflects who they are.

How are you going to spend your weekend? Does your space need an accessory refresh?
