Confession: I wear a lot of neutrals. A lot of black, but sometimes I want to be a little more adventurous with my wardrobe. A weekend Netflix Carrie Diaries binge-a-thon inspired me to start stepping outside my comfort zone. Eric Daman did a great job bringing in bright colors and mixing patterns. He really elevated every look with layers, accessories and color.
Inspiration is everywhere.
TV, movies, magazines, restaurants, travel, shopping, Instagram, and Pinterest. I believe you really can find inspiration in all things.
While I was strolling through Nordstrom Rack, this blazer caught my eye. It was on the sale rack and the vibrant colors of the plaid jumped out at me. It’s not often that I’m drawn to brighter colors, but this blazer just grabbed me and I knew I had to have it.
Next up….how to style it?
Thankfully, I have a closet full of neutrals. I wanted the blazer to be the star of the show, so I kept my base simple.
I’m a jeans girl, so I opted to go with my current go-to jeans. Wit & Wisdom knocked it out of the park on these jeans. The fit is amazing, the wash is great and I just feel good in them. As a petite girl, it’s a constant struggle to find jeans the right length. Even when advertised as petite or short that doesn’t mean they’ll be a winner, but these are the perfect length for my 5’2″ frame. These jeans come in regular too. Thank you Wit and Wisdom!
Current obsession: tie front blouses. I keep gravitating towards them. The current count of recent additions is four. Oops. J Crew has this simple cream version and I was lucky enough to get it on sale. It’ll certainly be a great addition to my wardrobe and a very versatile piece all year around.
Aside from the style of this top, what helped me pull the trigger was the fact that it’s machine wash. I find that I’m often drawn to silky tops that are DRY-CLEAN only. Frown. But living in Texas, dry-clean only tops are not at the top of my list for warmer temps, so I get excited when I find something that looks luxurious and silky but it’s machine washable. WOOHOO! Score.
Most importantly…the accessories to complete the look
Since I wanted the blazer to be the star, I wanted not only the base but my shoes to be simple too. I’m a huge fan of nude/flesh tone shoes. I feel like they elongate my legs which I could use all the help that I can get in that area. My collection includes the perfect nude flats, sandals and block heels. So, next on the list is the perfect nude heels.
Currently the majority of my handbags are neutral, so no pop of color in my bag for this outfit, but I have my eye on this beauty. (At least I have a pop of color in my earrings.)
- Jeans: Wit and Wisdom – Super Smooth Stretch denim skinny jeans from Nordstrom – They have a great selection so if this style isn’t right for you then check out their other options. Meanwhile, my mother ordered a pair for herself and she’s very pleased with the fit — she opted for the straight leg.
- Blazer: Halogen – Double Breasted Blazer from Nordstrom Rack
- Bag suggestion: This blazer just makes me want to really have fun with color, so I wouldn’t hold back and I’d pair this bag with this outfit.
- Shoes: Nordstrom – Vince Darlington Flat (I’m currently loving these flats, as a result, I have them on serious repeat. They are super comfy and look great with jeans. I have them in 2 colors and I’m thinking about getting in a 3rd.)
- Shoe Suggestion: Vince Damoris Notched Flat from Nordstrom Rack
- Top: Jcrew – Drapey tie-front blouse
- Earrings: I found my earrings at a little accessory store in London. I grabbed them on a whim and they have really become a go-to. Who knew I’d get so much wear out of blue earrings.
- Earring Suggestion: Nordstrom – Nectar Nectar Ancient Agate Tassel Earrings
Are you drawn to color or neutrals? Or are you like me and change it up depending on the season?
