Taking a different spin on the five fab finds today and sharing five fun places that I went to in the city of Georgetown. Georgetown is just up the road from Austin and a fun place to spend the day or the afternoon.
Georgetown has several great restaurants to grab a bite to eat at and new ones are popping up all the time. New shops are also opening up on the square so there are several places to pop in and spend some money. There’s a lot of other fun things to do in Georgetown but here’s:
Where I Went on My Latest Georgetown Trip…
- Lunch Spot: Laurie’s Cafe – Great spot to grab a quick bite to eat. They are only open for lunch. If you like combos this is the place for you. You can grab a sandwich, soup, or salad. (Come to think of it they may have other items on their menu…I just always order the same thing.) My order: soup of the day, a half of a chicken salad sandwich and the broccoli salad. (I love the Broccoli Salad!!)
- Let’s Go Shopping: Diva, The Ultimate Design Studio. Need something for your house? Diva is your place. The price tag for some items can be high but guess it all depends on your budget and how much you are willing to spend for fab finds. But I will say…it’s fun to go there and get inspiration. They have a ton of great stuff! They also set up a booth at The Christmas Affair that the Junior League puts on every year.
- Let’s Go Shopping: Red Bird Mercantile/The Exchange. This is actually two stores in one! The Exchange is a consignment store and the Red Bird Mercantile carries jewelry and clothing items. They have a fun selection of goodies — fun sundresses, tops, earrings & little knick-knacks. This would be a great place to grab a fun gift for someone or just spend some time browsing.
- Let’s Go Shopping: Gatherings. I have been going to Gatherings for years; I worked in Georgetown for a while and found this gem. They have antiques and home decor. It’s more of a shabby chic design vibe but you really can spend hours looking around this shop. There’s always fun trinkets and treasures. You wander around the store trying to take it all in and make sure not to miss one of the many nooks and crannies. They also have sales and events so follow them on social media or sign up for their emails to stay in the know. (They do a big Garage Sale once or twice a year.)
- Final Stop: Shopping can be hard work so why not finish off the day with a little wine! Georgetown Winery has wine and snacks but you can also buy tasty olive oils and different kinds of vinegar. They offer 4 tastings for $10! (And let me just say they give a healthy pour!!) During this trip, I not only left with a souvenir glass but a bottle of wine! Note: There are several wineries on the square so you can winery hop if you want to and it looks like they just opened up a place that serves different kinds of beers.
Restaurants:
I wanted to share a few other restaurants that I’ve enjoyed here. Depending on what you are wanting and when you go, here are a few more options…
- El Monumento: They aren’t open for lunch during the week but the food here is AMAZING! Traditional Mexican fare with a fun atmosphere and ambiance. The space is so neat…they have an interior courtyard, as well as a terrace that overlooks the iconic Blue Hole on the South San Gabriel River. Great place to grab dinner or happy hour with friends. If Brunch is your poison of choice, this is a great place to come. The Corazon salad is to die for. I would say it’s probably my favorite item on the menu here.
- Monument Cafe: Diner fare at its best. The ambiance is so cool and so retro. You walk in and feel like you are an extra in the movie Grease or you just walked into the Peach Pit on 90210. And the food is good too!
- Wildfire: I’ve only had brunch here but it was tasty. But anything that starts with a complimentary white chocolate raspberry scone can’t be bad, right? I always order the Texas Sized Almond Crunch French Toast and it does not disappoint.
If you live in the area you should definitely spend the afternoon in Georgetown. If you are driving through then this could be a great place to take a little break.
Maybe shopping’s not for you well hit up The Williamson Museum to learn a little history or take a tour of the Courthouse or just sit back at one of the eateries or wineries and listen to some live music. Wanna cool off then head over to the Blue Hole. There is something for everyone.
I do want to add that I only went into a few of the shops but they have several. They have shops with local art, clothing for women & kids as well as several antique places & a shop for the kiddos! Check out the Downtown shopping guide here.
