Tossed Out My Skinny Jeans Today

Unless you have a dress code to abide by, denim is always a good option. Denim will always be a closet staple in my book but we are really starting to see it evolve year after year. This year the streets are filled with different styles taking center stage and the skinny jean is no longer the prevailing style. Wider, more relaxed fit jeans are really trending right now. So I tossed out my skinny jeans today for a different silhouette.

Temps are heating up here in Texas so my inseam is rising with the temps. I moved away from the slick silhouette of skinny jeans to these cropped wide-leg jeans. So for anyone that’s not a fan of the skinny jean then you’ll be happy with the straight leg and wide-leg silhouettes that are hitting the mainstream.

I was so excited to find these white cropped wide-leg jeans because they are actually a good inseam for me! I didn’t have to chop them off! Woohoo. If you are petite, you can understand my excitement.

But some might feel that the cropped length can shorten you even more, so try tucking in your top or add a heeled sandal or wedge to lengthen your lower half. Adding a structured button-up or fitted top can also help balance the silhouette of the wider hem.

My Look:

  • Blazer: H&M – Single-breasted Blazer in cream/black stripe (sadly just sold out online. H&M has a coupon code right now so things are going fast.) Add this blazer to your Amazon cart. Here’s a fun option from Express and it’s currently 40% off. Think it’s too hot for a blazer then grab this vest from Express while it’s still 40% off.
  • Tank: Old Navy (old). My favorite tank from last summer but sadly they didn’t make this same style. Here’s a great option from Anthropologie.
  • Jeans: Nordstrom – NYDJ Wide Leg Capri Jeans (23″ inseam). Here’s a great option if you are looking for something with a longer inseam. This trouser option would be great for the office or for taller girls. Another great option from Amazon. Love these as well & a good price. Check out the pocket detail on this pair.
  • Shoes: Nordstrom Rack – Kenneth Cole. (no longer available) But here’s a great option by Sam Edelman if you are ok with height. Great heel height option on this one from Amazon. Target currently is doing 20% off sandals online…get these heeled ones before they are gone or go for a shorter heel with these.
  • Belt: Gucci dupe from Amazon. Here’s another option that comes in 5 colors.

Build your jean wardrobe with different shapes, cuts, washes, and finishes depending on what your mood is and what you plan to wear for the day.

These jeans will take me from work to weekend and day to night. Today’s look would be great for work.

Style Hacks and Tips:

  • When you sport a wider leg pant, you’ll want to offset the volume on your bottom half by going for a more structured silhouette on top. Tucking in your shirt will also be helpful to define your waist. You can do a full tuck or a half-tuck with your shirt.
  • Wearing a heel is also a good idea with wide-leg pants especially cropped. The height on your shoe will help lengthen your lower half.
  • Jacket Hack: I prefer 3/4 sleeves on jackets. (P.S. Showing a little forearm is slimming and stylish.) If the jacket doesn’t have 3/4 sleeves, I find myself rolling the sleeves or cuffing the sleeves. But cuffing doesn’t always look good or work so you attempt to roll up your sleeves, but then they don’t stay up. Well, I found a hack to help with that….a hair tie!
    • What you need: 2 fabric hair ties
    • What you do: Push your sleeve up to the desired location (around your elbow), place a hair tie in the folds on the sleeve. Then, use the excess fabric to conceal the tie. Repeat on the other side.
    • Why it works: A hair tie has just enough elastic hold to keep your sleeves in place, right where you want them. And being that you’re using fabric ties they won’t cut off your circulation.
