Closet staple: Blazer

Blazers have always been a favorite of mine. For me, a blazer is a quick fix when I don’t want to think about my outfit. I feel like I can add it to any outfit and immediately my look will be elevated. Blazers will always be a closet staple for me.

My theory is…

Create a wardrobe with versatile, timeless pieces. Have great classic, staple items that become the base of your outfit and you can jazz them up to work with trends and seasons. I love having those go-to pieces that you feel great in. I’m all about items that I can mix and match, dress up or down and layer. I love looking pulled together, but secretly you know you just threw your outfit together with little effort and you are comfortable.

One of my go-to blazer looks…

Throw one on with jeans and a graphic tee. It’s a simple but pulled together look but can easily be spiced up with a few accessories.

My uniform used to be a graphic tee, blazer, jeans and a statement necklace but lately I’ve traded-in my necklaces for statement earrings. Necklace, earrings, bracelet — take your pick and add statement jewelry to your look. Make the look your own. Express yourself with your accessories. Then grab some shoes depending on mood and occasion — flats, heels, sandals, boots, sneakers and VOILA you’re ready to go. It’s amazing how you can simply change your accessories and your outfit instantly changes.

So, I was at Target the other day and this Rolling Stone t-shirt caught my eye and inspired an outfit. It seems like band inspired graphic tees are everywhere right now. I decided to grab this inexpensive option to join in on this fun and retro trend. Wanted to get my rocker-chic style on with this ensemble. No reason not to add a little personality, so I went with a plaid blazer, black hoop earrings and red heels. I have red flats on stand-by in case I’m not feeling the heels. (I love that pop of color in a look.)

  • Blazer: Zara (old). Here’s a few other options that I really like. Treasure & Bond Plaid oversized blazer OR this one from Nordstrom
  • T-shirt: Target – Rolling Stones t-shirt
  • Jeans: Target – High Rise distressed skinny jeans. I didn’t expect to like these as much as I do. Love a high rise pant — they help with that middle section problem area. These are super comfy too. And ladies, these also come in plus sizes.
  • Shoes: H&M (OLD). Here’s a shorter version from Amazon. I also love the scalloped detail on this pair. Amazon has a great selection of block heels.
  • Bag: vintage Chanel. I bought this from Style Encore a few years ago. Fashionphile, Rebag and The RealReal are other great places to find second hand bags. I’ve purchased from Fashionphile and Rebag before. Want the Chanel look without the price tag. Check out these bags from Amazon — good looking dupe in my opinion.
  • Sunglasses: prescription Miu Miu
