The Sweater Dress. Some say “Odi et Amo” when it comes to the sweater dress. (odi et amo = I hate and love ). The sweater dress is a fashion statement that comes and goes. One minute we love it and the next we hate it but let’s be honest…we always go back to it because you can pretty much wear this piece however you want and whenever you like. Especially in a color like this poppy red and the fact that it has ¾ sleeves just adds to its versatility well at least for Texas climates.
There are so many styles and colors of sweater dresses it’s just a matter of finding the right one for your frame. I’m 5’2” and I was so excited to find this Who What Wear one from Target because… YAY! I don’t have to have it hemmed or even wear heels with it! Pardon me while I do my happy dance. What can I say, I am a little excited to find a midi dress that I can actually wear with flats or sneakers and it not make me look shorter than I already am. The fact that it’s not super form-fitting is another plus.
Not feeling this poppy red color? That’s ok because it also comes in olive green and beige.
Red Sweater Dress
So you can make an informed decision on what color to purchase, I did just read that flame scarlet is said to be one of the 7 biggest color trends of 2020 so I’d say that this dress falls into that category. It’s bold and bright. Pantone has also named Samba-Red as one of the colors of 2020. Not that wearing the biggest color trends of 2020 is a must but I get excited when red or some shade of red is trending because I’m sure you can tell that it’s one of my go-to colors.
Flame Scarlet – Bold, bright, warm and energetic, this fiery red hue exudes confidence and unquestionably makes a sartorial statement.

- You can actually wear a midi skirt over this! And yes, I did try it with my new polka dot skirt I just didn’t get a chance to take a picture of it.
- Throw on a blazer with this dress or a moto jacket for an edgier look
- When temps heat up, this dress will look great with some fun wedges and a straw bag.
