White Wide Leg Cropped Jeans Styled 2 Ways

This season’s most popular pants have both flare (as in supersized silhouettes) and flair (a hint of sartorial drama).

Wide-leg pants are trending right now and I don’t think they are going anywhere anytime soon. Everyone is trading in their skinny jeans for this silhouette that’s sweeping the streets. Women are wearing them everywhere. You can be a boss babe in wide-leg pants or mingle the night away or just go for a classic casual look.

But you might be thinking…wide leg cropped jeans/pants are intimidating. The thoughts running through your head might be…these will shorten me or they are wide at the bottom so they are going to make me seem wider. You might be fearful that you’ll look dumpy. Fear not my friends! You just have to find the right pair for you.

Styling Tips:

  • Proportion is key. Try a monochromatic look. The unbroken line of head-to-toe color can give the impression of height.
  • Find the right length for you. You don’t want too short because then you are rocking a pair of wide-leg pedal-pushers and you don’t want too long because then your legs can look stumpy. It’s all a matter of trial and error to find the right length for you. Note: Petite girls can wear the cropped pant…mine have an inseam of 23″ and I feel that’s a great length for my 5’2″ frame. You can see here that the model is definitely taller than me and they are more of a capri length on her.
  • To avoid the wider looking midsection when wearing cropped wide-leg pants, opt for a fitted top/vest or a sleek blouse that falls just above the hips. (You want your top to hug your upper half.) Tucking in your top or doing a half-tuck is also a great way to achieve the balance that you need with the volume on your lower half. (Showing even a small part of your waistband/waist shows off more of your leg line which is what you want.)
  • Grab the high-waisted version. Pants that sit higher on the waist are going to give the illusion of a longer leg. (And let’s face it they also camouflage the midsection as well.)
  • Finish off the look with a heel. This is just one more way to elongate the leg.

Finding the right pair can be intimidating and it can be a game of trial-and-error but the right silhouette is out there for you. Give those skinny jeans a break and grab a pair of wide-leg pants. Go for cropped, culotte, bell-bottom or palazzo pant.

Look 1

  • Jeans: NYDJ – Wide Leg Capri Jeans from Nordstrom. I share other options here.
  • Top: Abercrombie (no longer available). This green one is gorgeous. My jeans are high waisted so a cropped shirt like this is a good option because you can do a front tuck and not have a bunch of excess fabric and it’s not so cropped that you are showing off your midsection. Here’s a great stripe option and the nice thing about vertical stripes is they are going to make you appear taller. I think as women we often steer clear of horizontal stripes but there’s no need to be afraid of vertical stripes. They can be your friend and elongate your body. This floral top would look great with a pair of wide-leg jeans but I would recommend tucking it in so that you can define your waist. (Maybe even add a great belt.)
  • Shoes: Old Navy – Strappy Block Heel Sandal
  • Headband: H&M (in-store). Here’s a great option and it’s a two-for-one.

Look 2

  • Jeans: NYDJ – Wide Leg Capri Jeans
  • Tank: Target – A New Day – Day Tank.
  • Blazer: Target (no longer available), but I share other options here.
  • Shoes: Target – A New Day Michaela Mid Block Heel.
  • Bag: Abercrombie (no longer available). But here’s a fun option or this one.

Make it Your Own:

Steering away from the idea of a denim wide leg cropped pant…

  • I get Mediterranean vibes from these culottes from Zara. (These have my mom’s name written all over them! These are for you mom!)
  • Elongate your legs with this striped pair.
  • Can’t go wrong with a classic navy blue pair for the office. Show them you mean business at your next meeting or presentation.
  • For those fashionistas willing to take a risk and really show-off your flair…I mean flare.
  • A great denim pair from Express.
  • Old Navy comes to rescue so you can try this trend but not break the bank…denim and white.
  • Here’s a great plus-size option. (And check out those shoes!)
  • This pair comes in regular, petite and plus-size and the tie front top looks great with the wide-leg jean.

Happy shopping! I hope you find that perfect pair of wide-leg pants that works for you!
