Book Review: Whisper Beach

Since I didn’t get to take a beach vacay this year, I decided to get lost in a book where the story takes place at the beach. Not exactly the same, but it’ll work.

This book is not your typical beach vacation storyline. Sure there’s crab cakes and walks on the beach, but this book offers a little more than that. This one is full of secrets and mysteries. Did I pique your interest?

The Story…

Vanessa “Van” grew up in an idyllic beach town. She had great friends and a job at a local eatery. Van had fallen in love with a local boy named Joe. They were happy and dreaming of their future together. The couple had their whole lives ahead of them.

But a fairy tale ending isn’t what happens next.

Van did fall in love and lose her virginity…but as it turns out…it wasn’t the same boy.

And so the plot thickens…

Van finds herself pregnant and desperate and can’t turn to her family or her true love for help. So what does she do? She does the only thing that she thinks she can do…SHE RUNS AWAY.

You are probably playing out different storylines in your head as to what happens next. Where did she go? Did she have the baby? Who’s baby is it? Why did she cheat on Joe?

Turn the clock 12 years and Van is living in NYC. She’s built a great life for herself and she’s managed to build her own organizing company. She seems to have it all and maybe she does, but she’s still holding on to this secret.

The story takes a turn when she has to return home for a funeral. She’s nervous to go back. It’s been 12 years since she left and she never told anyone why she left or that she was ok. No one really knows what happened to her. No one knows about her secret. She knows there will be a lot of questions when she goes back, a lot of looks. This isn’t going to be easy.

Plans change…

So her plan was to go home for the funeral and then leave. She had no intention of staying. Funny how plans change. Suddenly, Van finds herself sticking around Whisper Beach. This means more time for people to ask about her past and where she’s been. More time for her secret to come out. And there’s a good chance she’s going to run into Joe. And Dana. (Dana? Wait who’s Dana….you’ll have to read it to find out.)

What happens next? Do Joe and Van get back together? What’s the secret? Will she stay or will she go back to NYC?

There’s only one way to find out.

Not sure if this is right book for you? Check out another great read here, here, here and here. Most of these are can’t put them down books.
