Pleated skirts are making a comeback. This 50s silhouette is flooding the streets so hopefully, you held on to that pleated skirt from a few years ago. Because it’s time to pull it out of the back of your closet and create a new look with it. There are quite a few ways that you can style it. And you’ll see some fun & new ways to wear it.
With the architectural pleats of the skirt giving it structure, it’s ok to pair it with a soft, baggy oversized top if you like. Sadly, I have to be a little careful with that styling tip because of my petite frame but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways I can grab this Spring/Summer 2019 trend by the horns and embrace it.
- Mix unexpected colors
- Go for a monochromatic look
- Go for a shorter hemline
- Tie (knot) up a t-shirt or tank
- Go for a belted option
- Style with a blazer
- Accessorize with trendy pieces (you could even wear with combat boots)
- Go for a classic black and white moment
- Go for an oversized top or sweater
You know I love a versatile piece so I’m excited that I’ll be able to style this skirt in more ways than one and I can dress it up or down. I can style it for work, date night or brunch.
Today, I’m showing 2 simple ways to style the pleated skirt. But stay tuned, maybe I’ll step outside the box & go a little bolder with my styling ways.
Style with a blazer:
Headed to work? Well trade in the pencil skirt and grab that pleated skirt from the back of your closet. (You won’t be in danger of anyone telling you that it’s so last season because the pleated skirt is back.) With temps only heating up in Texas, I wanted to go for a light and airy look.
- Skirt: Target – A New Day Floral Pleated Skirt
- Tank: Old Navy – Slim-fit high neck tank (This is by far my favorite simple tank.)
- Blazer: (Old – Nellie Partow). Here’s a cute option from Old Navy & you can have fun with pattern mixing with this combo. I love this one because of its classic silhouette. Prefer a 3/4 sleeve here’s your blazer. You can never go wrong with a linen blazer in the summer. Here’s a great neutral blazer in case you aren’t feeling the blue blazer. Or go for the ever-classic white blazer.
- Shoes: Old Navy – Block heel mule in mustard (comes in two other colors. I did size up in these. For a heel these are actually pretty comfy.)
- Bag: Looks Like Summer – Esme Bag in beige. (This bag comes in 2 other colors.) Use code jessicastyle for 15% off.
- Earrings: Nordstrom Rack – Natasha – Thick Tortoise Huggie Hoops
Tie up a t-shirt or tank for a casual look:
Knotting your t-shirt is one of the oldest styling tricks in the book. It’s a great way to dress down your sharpest of suits and add little visual interest to even the basic of outfits.
Knotting your shirt is a great way to give it shape and show-off your waistband. You can knot a basic tee or tank and transform the look.
- Skirt: Target – A New Day Floral Pleated Skirt
- Tank: Old Navy – Slim-fit high neck tank. Here’s another great option.
- Shoes: Vince – Rita (One of my favorite shoes. These are very comfy.)
- Bag: Zara (old). But here’s a fun option. I love the tassel charm on this bag. Or check out this straw shopper with braided handle. Circle straw tote handbag.
- Earrings: Amazon – Rattan Tassel earring. (I would say these have been my most worn earrings this summer.)
- Magenta Stone: Watch. Use code jessicastyle50 for 50% off.
Make it Your Own:
Whether you tie your t-shirt or wear one color head to toe a pleated skirt is flattering for all body types and figures. So whether you go for a trendy look or a classic one there’s a pleated skirt out there for everyone. Here’s a few that caught my eye…
- Classic black pleated skirt.
- Have fun with color and wear this pleated skirt with a simple black top and statement earrings.
- Leopard is always a good idea. After all, the leopard pleated midi skirt is everywhere this season.
- Feeling a little art deco then grab this skirt in regular, petite or tall.
How are you going to style your pleated skirt? Did you find one in the back of your closet or you going to go out and buy a cute new one?
