Five Fab Finds: Old Navy

This week’s FIVE FAB FINDS comes from Old Navy. I have always turned to Old Navy for basics. They don’t really offer the “edgy” style that I generally go for but sometimes I want to pull out more of the classic, preppy style that’s in me. Especially when the temperatures start to warm up.

Old Navy has always had a great selection of fun tops — especially florals. Last summer I wanted to introduce some fun floral sleeveless tops for casual weekend wear but didn’t want to splurge. Old Navy came to the rescue.

As a lover of layering, Old Navy does not disappoint in that area. They always have great basic tees and tanks that work perfectly under cardigans and blazers. I bought the best tanks last year and fingers crossed they come back this year.

It was important to me that this week’s FAB FINDS were cohesive items that could be worn together but would be great addition’s to my wardrobe on their own. I love versatile pieces that you can mix and match. (I know I say this a lot, but it’s the truth.) They always say that before you buy something you should figure out 3 ways to wear it. I think that really is a good plan no matter what the price tag is. So I made sure that this week’s goodies could be worn in multiple ways.

My Look:

Shoes

It’s no secret that I love block heels. I just think they are the perfect (practical) solution for adding height to my otherwise petite frame. With a heel 3″ or less, I feel that I can wear them all day long. So it’s no surprise that I fell in love with these with all the colors. I think they’ll be that perfect pop to my generally neutral outfits. Add some fabulous earrings and a fun bag and I’m all set.

Bag

Speaking of bags……I love this mustard one. I have always loved the color mustard, but it’s a color that I can’t wear. I’m too pale for it — it makes me look far too washed out. So if I want to partake in the mustard color then I’m gonna have to do it in an accessory. This one is a great size and I love that I can carry it cross-body. This will transition well into fall when that time comes.

Headband

Headbands are trending right now and we can thank Miu Miu for that. They introduced the accessory as part of their Spring/Summer 2019 Campaign. And it looks like it’s going to stick around for a little while. Headbands and barrettes were all over the street-style scene at this year’s Fall Fashion Weeks. So, expect this trend to stick around through the warm temps of Spring and Summer.

And you don’t have to be Blair Waldorf to sport this trend. Whether you’re preppy or edgy or boho you can rock this accessory for Spring.

With my short hair, I wasn’t sure if this was a trend that I could embrace but I was willing to give it a try. I love my short hair but it’s limiting. Now, don’t get me wrong…it makes getting ready really easy, but sometimes I want to do something a little different. Not sure if I should thank Miu Miu or Blair Waldorf for this but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. That’s the thing about trends. We never know how long they’ll stick around. So grab the headband that expresses your personality and rock it while you can.

Top

Checkmate! We’ve seen the windowpane pattern for years and it’s a pattern that will never go away. It’s like polka dots and houndstooth. Sometimes it’ll be front and center and sometimes it’ll sit back in the shadows, but it’s classic and will always be there. As I mentioned before, when temps heat up I’m drawn to floral prints, but ultimately I’m a classic prints girl so when I saw this top at Old Navy I opted for this classic print version over the floral. Now, don’t get me wrong the floral version is fun…I was actually eyeing it the other day. (I think if it’s background color was a color other than yellow I would have been more tempted. Yellow/mustard…just not my color.) But I decided to stay classic with my top and add the floral in my headband at least for this outfit.

Jeans

Old Navy is a great place to grab your basic jeans. I’ve been picking up a lot from Old Navy lately because I’ve craved a break from the skinny jean style. Now for this look, I went with your traditional skinny jeans, but since then I have picked up several other styles from Old Navy that I’m very excited about. Stay tuned for more on those. In the latest Harper’s Bazaar, they talk about how trends are straying away from skinny jeans this season and we are testing other styles. So for those that aren’t fans of skinny jeans, you’ll be excited to know that you’ll be seeing other styles out there.

When it comes to jeans, everyone has their preference. Some will forever be a skinny jean girl, a bootcut jean girl or a straight leg jean girl. But I like to experiment and try new silhouettes. Honestly, there were some silhouettes that I just didn’t think would work with my petite frame, but I decided to give them a try and I was pleasantly surprised. And ultimately you never know if it’ll be a silhouette that you want to wear forever. So Old Navy comes to the rescue with these other silhouettes at a great price-point so you can test the waters and see if you want to commit. What jean silhouettes are you testing this season?
